How to Get the Perfect Shot

I literally fought a moth for the perfect shot this week. I was sipping Mountain Dew and watching my friend Josh grill. Well, eventually I came across a stubborn moth. Essentially, I was trying to shoot him while his wings were open to see his beautiful design!

But the moth was NOT having it.

Not only did he wait until I was moving to flash his gorgeous colors, but he also flew at me when I would get too close to him. He was doing everything he could to make sure I didn’t get the shot I wanted.

I even tried to go around the SUV he was resting on, but he was not having it.

Eventually, I was able to wear him down, but it took almost a full hour! It was worth it, though.

Cochran Shoals Trail Hike Photos

I took a nice photo hike around Cochran Shoals Trail. Now if you keep up with my work, you’ll know that I LOVE shooting out in nature. Macro shots have become one of my favorite ways to share what I see with the world, and this trip is no different.

But let’s back up a little bit. Meet my friend Kate. She’s a goof, and she’s the first person I’ve taken on a photo walk that could walk cirlces around me. It’s impressive. But anyways, apparently this is one of her favorite running trails, so when she suggested we go shoot it, I was all in.

Other than shooting some cool shots of the river, the smaller nature elements were giving me tons to shoot on that busy Saturday afternoon. Between the insects and flora that decorate the trails to the river banks and fungi that we found, everything offered a great shot that day.

My favorite shots of the day are the collection of mushrooms I found. I don’t know why they have been so wonderful this year, but they have been everywhere for me to shoot. They are always unique and beautiful.

Macro Mushroom Photos

Another week goes by and I have more photos for you! This week I decided that I wanted to share my editing process with you. My subject this week comes from one of my many side jobs: delivering food.

I was driving up a steep driveway when I noticed the coolest mushroom in this customer’s yard. After giving him his food, I asked him if he would mind if I shot the mushroom. He was a little tickled that I had asked, and even suggested I take it.

I didn’t take the mushroom. I was too cool for me to disturb. So as I drove down his driveway, I stopped to take some photos that I think really turned out awesome.

I’ve loved doing macro photos lately, and I was very happy to get this one specifically with my wide-angle lens. I’ve had this lens a little over a year, but I finally feel like I understand how to use it. It finally feels like it’s my lens.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this collection of photos. I love doing photography, so I imagine I will continue to create and share with y’all for a long time.
